Prayer Hike at Rock Springs

Prayer Hike at Rock Springs

Saturday, Oct 21, 2017

9:00am – 11:00am

Join us for a short Prayer Hike at Rock Springs Conservation Area to enjoy the grandeur of God’s creation together. Hike at your own pace. We will begin with a prayer and hike the loop counterclockwise and take a break near the cattail ponds near the end of the loop. There we will have a snack and reflection / discussion. We will finish by 11 a.m. and return to the parking lot.

It is a short loop hike of 1.25 miles beginning at Homestead Prairie Farm and running through prairie and forest. We rate this as EASY by our scale; however Rock Springs rates this as MODERATE/DIFFICULT. It is relatively flat terrain, well defined trails, and may involve some small hills. There’s not too much elevation change and has a slightly rocky terrain. Light hiking shoes or sneakers are appropriate footwear.

You can download the Rock Springs Trail Map here.

We will meet in the Rock Springs main parking lot at 9 a.m.

Bring: Bottles of water, a snack or two, and dress in layers appropriate for the weather.

Rock Springs Nature Center is located on the southwestern edge of Decatur, Illinois. To get to Rock Springs Conservation Area from Decatur go south on Route 48 and turn right onto Rock Springs Road. Watch for signs. Plenty of free parking is available.

Rock Springs Conservation Area is home to a Nature Center with exhibits, art galleries, a Window on Wildlife, and hands-on programs for the whole family. Pavilions, cross-country ski rentals, over nine miles of trails, and a restored 19th century farmhouse are just a few of the features which make Rock Springs Conservation Area a great place to explore year-round.
