And the Winner Is…
The winner of my first give-away contest for a handcrafted leather Fire Kit Neck Pouch is Susan! Congratulations!
I’ll have another monthly contest in January. Watch the email newsletter for the announcement. Maybe it will be a magnifying glass in a handcrafted leather holder, or a knife, some survival gear, or something completely different – but it will be free and there will be a winner.
Don’t miss the next giveaway!
Enter a Giveaway to win a free leather fire kit neck pouch, just in time for the holidays. You’ll receive the Leather Pouch and a paracord lanyard sent to you in the United States by Priority Mail or International First Class Mail for foreign addresses. The items shown in the fire kit photo below are not included in the giveaway — you’ll supply the tools that work best for you. See the end of this post for entry instructions.
In the article 10 Tips to Make a Fire in a Tough Situation, I explained that I wear a small leather neck pouch that contains a simple fire kit. My pouch holds a ferrocerrium rod, a striker, some petroleum jelly soaked cotton balls, and a couple of Tinder Quik tabs. I wear it around my neck alongside a neck knife whenever I am in the woods. I prefer the neck pouch because it is easily accessible and can be worn under a coat or mid-layer and pulled out when needed. I find this more convenient than trying to open a belt pouch when wearing a coat. The paracord lanyard can be used for a bow-drill thong.
The Small Leather Neck Pouch is handmade from quality 4/5oz veg-tanned tooling leather. It has been hand-stitched with tan waxed thread using a saddle stitch. It was dyed with several coats of Range Tan dye and finished with a protective sealant. The pouch has a brass snap closure and small brass rivets at the top edges of the pouch for added strength. The pouch fits in the palm of your hand. It’s the perfect size for a fire starting kit with tinder, small fire steel, and a small knife. Lots of uses for the outdoor lover. Keep important things close in this small leather neck pouch. If you’re familiar with the Leatherman Squirt multitool and the Swiss Army Knife Classic model, this pouch will hold both of them side-by-side. That gives you an idea of the volume in this pouch.
