Your humble guide on this Holy Adventure blog is Kevin Richardson — a lightweight backpacking, bushcraft, and outdoor adventure fanatic, backpacking gear junkie, husband and father, Catholic deacon, hiking partner with God, photographer, teller of tales, a big kid, and a guy who’s not afraid to get lost to find his way.
He blogs about holy adventure — our journeys in the wilderness and in everyday life. He tells tales about backpacking, getting lost, encountering the sacred, family and friendship, and not taking ourselves too seriously.
It’s not the mountain we conquer, but ourselves,
said Sir Edmund Hillary
If we allow it to happen, the wilderness can transform us. For many of us, a journey into the wilderness, away from the daily routine helps to teach us how to enjoy our natural world in remarkable ways. And Sir Edmund Hillary was right on the mark — adventure helps us to see and “conquer” fears and attitudes that prevent us from reaching our greatest potential.
For many people, the outdoor experience also sharpens our senses to listen and see and feel the presence of God the Creator in the world around us. Maybe you’ve learned how “mountain experiences” help us to become more aware of how God is with us in every moment and place. Amazing things can happen on mountains. God likes mountains.
